The NCUA’s Office of Credit Union Resources and Expansion will accept grant applications from July 1 through August 18. Grants this year will be available in the following categories:

  • Leadership Development (maximum grant $10,000) – promoting career development within the credit union industry.
  • Underserved Outreach (maximum grant $20,000) – assisting credit unions in improving the financial well-being of individuals in underserved areas.

The webinar will feature credit union board members and staff leaders from Municipal Credit Union, Brooklyn, New York, Self Help Credit Union, Durham, North Carolina, and North Side Community Federal Credit Union, Chicago, Illinois. The webinar also will discuss how to use the NCUA’s Voluntary Credit Union Diversity Self-Assessment tool. This 28-question checklist is designed to support credit unions’ diversity efforts. All credit unions, but especially those with at least 100 employees, are encouraged to complete the checklist and submit it electronically to the NCUA’s Office of Minority and Women Inclusion by Dec. 30.

Submitting self-assessment results helps the NCUA analyze credit union diversity as required by Section 342 of the Dodd-Frank Act. The data received will be used to identify trends and create a baseline for evaluating diversity in the credit union system. Aggregated, anonymous data also will be used for the NCUA’s annual report to Congress. Credit unions are not required to complete the assessment, and it has no bearing on their CAMEL ratings.

I anticipate the 2014 sessions will produce similar results.”

FFIEC Executive Leadership of Cybersecurity: What Today's CEO Needs to Know About the Threats They Don't See (5/7/2014)

The FFIEC offered this webinar to raise awareness about the pervasiveness of cyber threats, discuss the role of executive leadership in managing these risks, and to share actions being taken by the FFIEC. FFIEC announced a vulnerability and risk-mitigation assessment as well as regulatory self-assessment of supervisory policies and processes. These assessments will be conducted later this year and will help the FFIEC member agencies make informed decisions about the state of cybersecurity across community institutions and address gaps and prioritize necessary actions to strengthen supervisory programs. FFIEC members want to provide additional support to community financial institutions, which may not have access to the resources available to larger institutions.
