As the Chief Economist Ralph Monaco is responsible for enhancing NCUA’s understanding of emerging microeconomic and macroeconomic risks by producing meaningful and robust modeling and risk identification tools. He also participates in agency and interagency policy development.
Monaco joined NCUA in 2011, serving as the agency’s senior economist.
Prior to joining NCUA, Monaco was Director of the Office of Macroeconomic Analysis in the Office of Economic Policy at the Treasury Department. He also has served on the President’s Council of Economic Advisers and at the Department of Agriculture. He has worked as a researcher at the University of Maryland and was an adjunct faculty member.
Monaco holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Maryland and a bachelor’s from the College of William and Mary.
