Modern Field-of-Membership Rule Improves Consumer Access to Affordable Credit
More Americans will become eligible for credit union products and services under a final rule (Part 701) approved by the Board that modernizes NCUA’s field-of-membership regulations. “This comprehensive rule expands consumer access to credit and provides them a safe place to invest their life savings,” NCUA Board Chairman Rick Metsger said.
NCUA Reaches Record Score for Overall Employee Satisfaction
NCUA reached its highest score ever for overall employee satisfaction in the 2016 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey. The agency scored 73 percent in the survey’s Global Satisfaction Index, making it one of the federal government’s best-performing agencies in terms of overall employee satisfaction. The high score reflects NCUA’s efforts to improve employees’ engagement with their jobs, the agency and its mission.
Supplemental Capital Needs Careful Consideration
The inclusion of supplemental capital as part of the calculations for the risk-based capital rule raises legal and regulatory questions for federally insured credit unions, experts with the Office of Examination and Insurance told the NCUA Board in a briefing during the October open meeting.
Comments on NCUA’s Proposed Budget Due Nov. 4
NCUA will accept written comments on the proposed 2017–2018 budget by email at BudgetComments@ncua.gov until 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4. A detailed description of the budget proposal is available on the agency’s budget resource center.
Submit Voluntary Diversity Checklist by Nov. 30
NCUA, through the Office of Minority and Women Inclusion, has released its first Credit Union Diversity Self-Assessment Checklist. The checklist is a tool to help credit unions build the diversity of their workforce and membership. The brief, 28-question checklist is voluntary. NCUA encourages credit unions with at least 100 employees to perform a diversity self assessment, document the results using the checklist and submit the checklist electronically to NCUA’s Office of Minority and Women Inclusion.
