Comments on Proposed Field-of-Membership Rule Due Dec. 9
Stakeholders have until December 9 to submit their comments on NCUA’s proposed rule that recommends additional changes to the agency’s field-of-membership rules. This proposal responds directly to suggestions received during the initial field-of-membership rulemaking, but which could not be incorporated in the recent final rule because of the Administrative Procedure Act.
NCUA Board Approves 2017–2018 Budget
The 2017 operating budget is 1.6 percent lower than the 2017 budget approved by the Board in November 2015 and 2.5 percent higher than the 2016 budget. The 2018 operating budget represents a 4.7 percent increase over the 2017 budget. The Board-approved budgets also adopt the 10 recommendations contained in the report of the Exam Flexibility Initiative.
NCUA Sets 2017 Call Report Deadlines
Beginning with the Dec. 31, 2016, reporting cycle, federally insured, natural-person credit unions will have until the final Sunday of the month following the end of the quarter to file Call Reports. Credit unions will now have, on average, an additional seven days to file Call Reports.
Nominations for NCUA Consulting Assistance Open through Nov. 30
Credit unions that qualify for consulting assistance from NCUA have until Wednesday, Nov. 30, to submit their nominations. Eligible credit unions may nominate themselves or be nominated by an examiner from NCUA or a state supervisory agency. The 2017 consulting period runs from Jan. 1 through June 30. Credit unions selected for the consulting round will be announced in late December. Credit unions not chosen may apply again in subsequent rounds.
Submit Voluntary Diversity Checklist by Nov. 30
NCUA, through the Office of Minority and Women Inclusion, has released its first Credit Union Diversity Self-Assessment Checklist. The checklist is a tool to help credit unions build the diversity of their workforce and membership. The brief, 28-question checklist is voluntary. NCUA encourages credit unions with at least 100 employees to perform a diversity self assessment, document the results using the checklist and submit the checklist electronically to NCUA’s Office of Minority and Women Inclusion.
