NCUA Issues Cell Phones to Examiners

Alexandria, Va., August 21, 2007 – The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) has contracted with AT&T Wireless to issue cellular phones to all field examiners in the near future.

Providing cell phones will afford examiners the ability to easily stay in touch, not only with assigned credit unions but with the entire network of agency staff, state authorities and assigned working groups. The cell phone numbers will be published in the NCUA telephone directory and provided to appropriate credit unions. 

The National Credit Union Administration charters and supervises federal credit unions. NCUA, with the backing of the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, operates and manages the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, insuring the accounts of over 86 million account holders in all federal credit unions and the majority of state-chartered credit unions. NCUA is funded by credit unions, not federal tax dollars.
