HUD Official To Keynote
NCUA’s Access Across America
Economic Empowerment Summit this week in Dallas.
Alexandria, VA, April 10, 2006 – National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Chairman JoAnn Johnson announced today that Ms. Anna Maria Farias, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Grant Programs in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, (HUD) will serve as the keynote speaker at NCUA’s upcoming Access Across America Economic Empowerment Summit in Dallas, Texas on Wednesday, April 12.
Deputy Assistant Secretary Farias oversees Grant Programs in HUD's Office of Community Planning and Development, with oversight of 6.3 billion dollars and jurisdiction over the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), Section 108 Loan Guarantee Program, Environment and Energy Programs, the American Dream Downpayment Initiative (ADDI), and Disaster Recovery. Ms. Farias has distinguished herself throughout her career in Texas and Washington D.C., which includes several Government Appointments. Ms. Farias has received numerous awards for her professional and civic achievemert, including induction into the Texas Women Hall of Fame in 2000.
Ms. Farias graduated from Boston University with honors and received her law degree from Temple University Law School in Philadelphia where she was also the Class President. Ms. Farias also attended the Harvard University JFK School of Government Programs for Senior executives in State Government.

She truly understands how credit unions can serve as a reliable financial partner and contribute to the economic development of the region. She is an ideal Keynote Speaker for the summit in Dallas.”
NCUA Vice Chairman Rodney Hood will also address the participants at the summit. “I am looking forward to joining Chairman Johnson at the Access Across America summit in Dallas,” said Vice Chairman Hood. “I commend those who will be attending and am encouraged by their dedication to learning more about how to best help credit union members achieve the American dream.”
The April 12 summit will include presentations from the following federal agencies:
- Department of Agriculture – Member Business Lending and Homeownership.
- Department of Housing and Urban Development – Homeownership.
- Department of Treasury –Health Savings Accounts and Community Development Financial Institutions Fund. (CDFI)
- U.S. Small Business Administration- Member Business Lending.
- National Credit Union Administration – Health Savings Accounts and Serving Emerging Markets and the Underserved.
