Vice Chairman Hood Gains New Insight into Emergency Readiness at FDIC Seminar

November 8, 2006, Alexandria, VA- National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Vice Chairman Rodney E. Hood sought emergency readiness best practices during the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation’s (FDIC) symposium titled “Protecting the Financial Sector – A Public and Private Partnership.”  The event was held at George Washington University and featured expert advice from multiple government agencies.  Among those represented were the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of the Treasury; both of whom focused on infrastructure protection and disaster readiness.

Hood’s participation in the session was part of his effort to learn of innovative methods used to manage risk in preparation for his upcoming Risk Mitigation Summit on January 11, 2007.  “I am dedicated to ensuring that the industry leaders who attend the summit are presented with the most effective risk mitigation concepts available.”

In addition to the symposium, Vice Chairman Hood visited the offices of the FDIC Federal Credit Union. “I applaud FDICFCU for their long and successful history within the credit union industry.  It is one of the oldest charters and is still vibrant more than seventy years later.  FDICFCU is a well-managed and well-capitalized credit union with a very competent board.”

The National Credit Union Administration is the independent federal agency that regulates, charters and supervises federal credit unions. NCUA, backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, also operates and manages the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), insuring the deposits of 85 million account holders in all federal credit unions and the majority of state-chartered credit unions.
