Vice Chairman Hood Participates in
CEO Roundtable Meeting in South Carolina

September 6, 2006, Alexandria, VA- National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Vice Chairman Rodney E. Hood addressed the leaders of South Carolina’s credit unions during a CEO roundtable meeting which was hosted by the South Carolina Credit Union League. Vice Chairman Hood gave a regulatory update and answered questions from the meeting’s participants.

"Today’s roundtable meeting was very productive," said Vice Chairman Hood.  “I was very pleased to join South Carolina’s credit union CEO’s and leaders whose dedication to serving their members has made a powerful difference throughout the state. South Carolina’s credit unions have stimulated economic growth while helping the underserved move closer to the financial mainstream. I was very impressed with how South Carolina’s credit unions truly exhibit the cooperative spirit by giving back to the community by supporting charitable causes and helping with the ongoing hurricane recovery effort.”

While in South Carolina, Vice Chairman Hood met with Lieutenant Governor Andre’ Bauer to discuss the role of credit unions in strengthening the state’s economy.  “I appreciate Lieutenant Governor Bauer’s interest and appreciation for the role credit unions have in the economy,” said Mr. Hood.  “We discussed the importance of financial literacy and providing protection from predatory lending, especially in a state with such a large military presence. He was very pleased to hear more about credit union’s dedication to serving their members in these vital areas.”

The National Credit Union Administration is the independent federal agency that charters and supervises federal credit unions. NCUA, with the backing of the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, operates the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), insuring the savings of nearly 85 million account holders in all federal credit unions and many state-chartered credit unions. NCUA operations are funded by credit unions, not tax dollars.
