Vice Chairman Hood and Board Member Hyland to Serve on Panel at NAFCU’s 39th Annual Conference and Exhibition

July 12, 2006, Alexandria, Va. – National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Vice Chairman Rodney E. Hood and Board Member Gigi Hyland will make presentations on a panel hosted by the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) on Friday, at its 39th Annual Conference and Exhibition held in Toronto, Canada. They will both give general updates on recent NCUA Board and Agency activities, before answering questions from Conference participants.

"I look forward to joining Board Member Hyland on this panel to discuss issues that are important to the credit union system," said Vice Chairman Hood. "I am confident that the discussion will illuminate important ways to enhance service to credit union members across America. I commend NAFCU for their 39 years of dedicated service to America's cooperative financial institutions."

"This is a unique opportunity to meet with NAFCU members and discuss issues of vital importance which will affect the credit union system during our tenure on the NCUA Board,” said Board Member Hyland. “I welcome the chance to be on the panel with my colleague, Vice Chairman Hood, and look forward to an informative exchange."

The panel will address topics pertinent to the credit union system including: compliance and examination issues; data security; small credit union development; and ongoing regulatory issues such as conversions, data collection, and serving the underserved.

Headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, NAFCU was founded in 1967 to represent the interests of federal credit unions before the federal government and the public. The Annual Conference and Exhibition will provide informational and educational opportunities for credit unions to enhance service to their members.

The National Credit Union Administration is the independent federal agency that charters and supervises federal credit unions. NCUA, with the backing of the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, operates the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), insuring the savings of nearly 85 million account holders in all federal credit unions and many state-chartered credit unions. NCUA operations are funded by credit unions, not tax dollars.
