Office of the EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Office of the Executive Director is responsible for the agency's daily operation and the executive director reports directly to the NCUA Chairman. All regional and central office directors report to the executive director. NCUA’s Equal Opportunity Program is included in this office.
Executive Director—Mark A. Treichel
Mark A. Treichel is the Executive Director (ED) of NCUA. As ED, he is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the federal agency that charters and supervises the nation’s federal credit unions and insures the vast majority of credit union member deposits.
Prior to being named NCUA Executive Director, Mr. Treichel served as the Regional Director of the Region 1 – Albany office. As Regional Director, he was responsible for the oversight of the chartering program for federal credit unions and the examination and supervision programs for all federally insured credit unions in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
Mr. Treichel joined NCUA as an examiner in 1986. He has also served as a problem case officer, supervisory examiner, director of special actions and insurance, acting director of risk management in the Office of Examination and Insurance, associate regional director of operations and deputy executive director. He was named to his current position in January 2013.
Mr. Treichel holds an accounting degree from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
