Get the Latest Information about How Consumer Funds Are Protected

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (Feb. 3, 2014) – The National Credit Union Administration today released the latest version of the Your Insured Funds booklet, providing consumers and credit unions with the latest share insurance coverage information in a new, easy-to-read format. The updated booklet is available at http://go.usa.gov/BD3d.

“It’s important that credit union members understand what their federal insurance coverage is for the various types of accounts offered at our nation’s credit unions,” NCUA Consumer Protection Director Gail Laster said. “Using the information in this updated booklet, consumers will be able to make better decisions about their money and learn more about how their checking, share, trust and retirement accounts are insured.”

Printed copies of the booklet are available by completing the order form available here or by calling (703) 518-6340. Downloadable print-ready copies of the booklet, as well as other share insurance resources, including the How Your Accounts are Federally Insured brochure and the NCUA Share Insurance Estimator, are available at mycreditunion.gov/Estimator or ncua.gov.

Backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government, the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund insures member accounts up to $250,000. No member of a federally insured credit union has ever lost a penny of shares insured by NCUA.

Interested parties may contact the Office of Consumer Protection’s Division of Consumer Access toll free at 1-800-755-1030 (select option 2) or by email at DCAmail@ncua.gov with any questions about the Your Insured Funds booklet or other Share Insurance Fund questions.

NCUA is the independent federal agency created by the U.S. Congress to regulate, charter and supervise federal credit unions. With the backing of the full faith and credit of the United States, NCUA operates and manages the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, insuring the deposits of more than 98 million account holders in all federal credit unions and the overwhelming majority of state-chartered credit unions. At MyCreditUnion.gov and Pocket Cents, NCUA also educates the public on consumer protection and financial literacy issues.
