ALEXANDRIA, Va. (Oct. 10, 2013) – In recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month, the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) today released an updated Spanish version of the agency’s popular consumer website, MyCreditUnion.gov, and its financial literacy microsite, Pocket Cents.
“During the last two decades, the number of Spanish speakers in America has more than doubled. Today, more than 36 million Americans speak Spanish at home,” NCUA Board Chairman Debbie Matz said. “It is critical that these Spanish speakers have access to reliable resources for financial information. NCUA’s MyCreditUnion.gov and Pocket Cents provide consumers with timely and practical tips to assist them on their path to financial security. I encourage everyone to take full advantage of all the tools we have made available to them free of charge.”
Spanish-speaking consumers are now able to navigate a wealth of resources on NCUA’s consumer websites on topics like paying for higher education, planning for emergencies, and managing debt. Kids also now may play the site’s popular personal finance game, Hit the Road, in Spanish. MyCreditUnion.gov and Pocket Cents also feature two new online resources designed to help older consumers avoid scams and protect their finances.
MyCreditUnion.gov and its Spanish counterpart make it easy for consumers to learn more about saving, borrowing and managing credit, as well as how to receive a free annual credit report and protect themselves from fraud. These websites also explain how credit unions work, where to find a credit union to join, and even how to start a credit union. Additionally, the websites provide important pointers on resolving consumer complaints for credit union members.
NCUA encourages all Spanish-speaking consumers accessing http://espanol.mycreditunion.gov/ for the first time to bookmark it and share it like so many others have done with MyCreditUnion.gov.
