NCUA Board and Actions
NCUA has a full-time, three-member board appointed by the President of the United
States and confirmed by the Senate. No more than two board members
can be from the same political party, and each member serves a staggered
six-year term. The NCUA board normally meets monthly, except August,
in open session in Alexandria, Virginia.
- Chairman
JoAnn Johnson - President George W. Bush nominated Senator Johnson to a seat on the Board
November 27, 2001 and named her Chairman effective
May 3, 2004. She was confirmed by the Senate
March 22, 2002, and had served as NCUA Board
Vice Chair since January 2003. Chairman Johnson
is a former educator, athletic coach and community
activist. She was elected to office in 1994 and
chaired both the Iowa Senate Commerce Committee
and Ways and Means Committee before resigning
to join NCUA. Her term expired August 2, 2007 and she continues to serve at the pleasure of the President.
Senior Advisor and Chief of Staff to the Chairman - Peter C. Barrett
- Vice Chairman Rodney E. Hood - Rodney E. Hood was appointed by President George W. Bush to a seat on the NCUA Board November 15, 2005. His term expires April 10, 2009.
Mr. Hood joins the NCUA Board after serving the Department of Agriculture as USDA Associate Administrator for Rural Development's Housing Program since September 2004, addressing the housing needs of rural America.
Senior Policy Advisor: Carlton L. Hoskins
- Board Member Gigi Hyland - Gigi Hyland took office on November 18, 2005, as a member of the NCUA Board for a six-year term. Her term expires August 2, 2011. Prior to joining the NCUA Board, Ms. Hyland's career spanned 14 years serving the credit union community.
